I have an 2000 Alero whose front right side seems to shiimmy while driving.?

All the front end components look good. I have a question about the drive axle. There is almost a half inch of play in between the two sets of bearings. When grabbing the shaft you can move it back and forth between the wheel and transaxle.Could this be causing by little vibrating when driving?

if the rubber boot is torn on either end of the shaft then replace the boot. It holds grease in the CV joint and shouldn’t be leaking ANY out. As for the play in the shaft itself, CV joints are supposed to have some play in them, but it’s hard to tell without actually being there to say if it’s too much play or not.
The joint is definetly worn out if you hear a clicking noise when you turn either left or right going around a corner, or you can see blobs of grease in a line around the wheelwell or near the tranny output shaft on either side..
