riding mower/tractor stability?
I bought a used Crafstsman riding lawn tractor with a 42 inch cut. It is only four years old and is in good shpe. However, the person who sold it to me didn’t have the manual. I have no experience with riding mowers and just wondered how steep or uneven the terrain has to be before there is the concern of it tipping over. My backyard has some grade to it and is uneven in spots. It also has mole mounds that make it uneven. As I was mowing, the tractor kind of moves and tilts with the terrain. Is that okay? If the wheels don’t come off the ground is it fine? I may be being overly cautious…I just don’t know when the possibility of it tipping over might occur. Don’t push anything…. if you don’t feel comfortable doing it… don’t do it. Garden tractors generally have a pretty low center of gravity and hold thier ground pretty well. If you have areas you have to mow and the possibility of rolling over is concerning you… you should add weight to the tractor. Wheel weights or filling the tires are a few easy ways to do so. The more weight and the lower it is… the harder it would be to turn over. Be careful.
