What could be causing our lawn mower to keep dieing?

It is only one or two years old. We have changed the spark plug, drained the gas and put new gas in it, also added oil and checked the air filter.

What happens is that we can get it started but it wont stay started…it starts to sound like it is going to die and then does. It is self propelled and a Toro Recycler as the type. What could be wrong with it?

I don’t know your engine but it seems that it might be the carb. It depends on the engine. Do you have an owners manual? Some engines you can adjust the carb. Others you have to take the carb. off the engine and use a air compressor to blow out a little spec of dust that will cause the problem. My snow blower, that has a Tecumseh engine was such a case. Primed it, choked it, stared it, ran great for 15 sec’s and died. Problem was something I couldn’t see in the carb. Blew it out and works fine since. On the other hand, I had a Craftsman chainsaw that would start great but when left to idle would die. Two adjustments on it, high run and idle run, two little red and blue screws by the carb. Adjusted the idle and good to go. Check your make and model and go to the manufactures web site. You might come up with the answer. Good luck.
