riding lawn mower V twin only 1 cylinder out of 2 working?
its a 2 cylinder motor but it threw a rod on the right side of the motor (sitting on it) before i figured that out, i started it up and noticed it was shaking a ton so i shut it down. upon inspection, i found a small whole on the left side. i can patch the hole, but is it safe to run the motor if i removed the piston and connecting rods? i can also remove the intake.
If not, how much would this cost to repair myself. I have the knowledge to do it myself, so how much does it cost for the parts?
its a 20hp ohv v twin. briggs and stratton
It’s gonna vibrate like crazy, develop a bunch less than half the rated 20hp, and perhaps cause other damage as a consequence. So, repair it.
Can’t help on parts cost – but if your labor is ‘free’ and also skilled the parts will be (at a guess) around $600 +/- assuming _only_ those parts you listed are damaged and there is no problem with the crank or bearings.
Maybe consider looking for a rebuilt or used engine, and keep fresh oil in it.
