He is a 4 year old 16.1 h.h. Registered AQHA, FQHR and has his NRHA license. The ad states “Extremely Broke Gelding. He can do flying lead changes, pivot and stop. Steers really well and floats across the ground. Have shown him this summer Western Pleasure and he has done pretty well. He can do any Western Horsemanship pattern you put in front of him. Bathes, clips, loads and up todate on all shots.

First His conformation is not indicative for Reining. His back is too long, he is built too downhill, and he couples in funny into his loins. The next thing I don’t like, and cannot believe he has won much in WP with that hideous lope….it was too slow to the point that he couldn’t even maintain a 3 beat, he would constantly break and either drop out in front or literally go back to a trot…he does not use himself in the shoulders, even when steering and is not starting his impulsion from his hind end, hes not driving. The next is I do like how he moved out into a decent speed when she asked for circles, but was all strung out, again not using himself properly from his rear-end. The last thing that I feel is the most important, especially for Reining is he simply has no face…no softness, flexibility, at any time, at any speed I should be able to draw the face as far up as I choose even if it mean all the way to their chest ….attaining that type of softness and flexibility is crucial in developing the use of shoulders and hips for Reining. I would never say that he couldn’t do it with proper training because Ive seen some weird put together horses that can Rein but that horse is looking at 1 year of training with a well known Reining trainer to catch up with whats competing out in the pen right now. I think a consult with a decent trainer is in order to give you an honest opinion about his potential. After a complete vet check I might offer 2500.
