I need a wiring diagram for a simplicity rider “model 990400″to hook up generator/starter to regulator.

When I hook up the regulator it blows the fuse that goes to the am-meter. I checked and have no short in that wiring. The starter/gen. is rebuilt. I tried a new regulator and the field wire to the regulator seems to go to ground. I checked another regulator and it is the same. I think the wire from the am-meter goes to the bat. terminal of the reg. I think the armature wire goes to the “L” terminal. Please help if you can?

It may be normal for the field wire to appear to go to ground. It is merely a coil of wire, one end of which connects to the chassis. You are measuring the resistance of the wire, typically very low, to ground. The regulator board would have some way to control current through the coil in order to regulate the output voltage.
Disconnect the output of the generator / starter and connect the regulator again. Measure the output voltage. There may be a problem elsewhere than in the generator.
