i want to design a variable speed drive with two cone pulleys and manual belt shifter give me idea?
cone pulley mechanism is used in lathe machies to change the speed of headstock spindle . i require a manual belt shifter to change the positon of belt from one pulley to another without stopping teh drive shaft
You need an infinitely variable gearbox. In the last 15 years this problem has been solved in two different ways, both of them robust, reliable and satisfactory. One which I read about in Popular Mechanics magazine more than 10 years ago, converts rotary motion to to-and-fro motion, where the infinitely variable gear change is applied, then back to rotary motion. The other, more recent, uses cone pulleys but the belt, instead of being rubber with a triangular cross section like in some garden tools, is made of metal segments, and it is used in a production car; that’s how much power it can transmit.
