how do I remove the governor from the rider mower?
I have a 14Hp snapper rider mower that is the better part of 10 years old. How can I remove the governor? will it be electrical or mechanical?
Mechanical, look for a spring that is connected to either a plastic air vane (briggs & stratton) or lever that protrudes from the block (tecumseh) If you want you can just hook a string to it and when you need more power give it a gentle pull, the spring should bring it back to normal when you release it unless to pull too much and wreck the spring… A word of advice though, don’t keep it wide open for extended periods of time unless you the the whole thing to blow up and turn into a unusable mass of aluminum, governors are meant to prevent complete meltdown. Also lawnmower blades and the bolts that hold them are rated for a RPM limit as well…. Don’t want that thing coming off either.
