my mower seems to be leaking gas through the air filter, how could this happen, and is it worth fixing?

Yours is a very common complaint, not to worry! A simple carb cleaning and rebuild will solve the problem. (Clean to get rid of any gunk in the carb and rebuild to allow gas into the carb only when called for) The rebuild kit contains the “needle and seat” to shut off the gas flow when necessary, along with all seals and hardware needed to rejuvenate the carb. (some skill is helpful to do this job satisfactorily).
