my hotpoint aquarius dishwasher goes straight into prewash program when switched on?
it emits a longish beep and then you cant change it into another program no matter what other buttons you press. restarting it does the same thing. It also emits a random series of beeps during this prewash cycle. Sometimes i can switch it off at the plug and it is ok
switch it on, and let it run through its prewash cycle. if you are competant enough, remove the covers and observe the clock / timer mechanism as it runs. it might have a push-rod type devise, attached to the dial at the front, used to jog it round to the next preset in the wash cycle. (-it might be a newer electronic system) if it is electronic, dont bother. if not, try cleaning any dirt from inside the mechanism as it may be jammed at ‘prewash’. check for corroded wiring elsewhere and try again. when you run it through, let it run all the way through the cycle. when its finished it might be ready to go.
before all that though, check your overflow / drain pipe. remember this pipe has to go up before it goes into a drain, like an upturned u-bend. if it goes straight out and down, the washer will simply not fill up, and keep dumping water sraight through the top, and out the bottom!
