Driving on ice, why do you have to drive in high gear?
I was at the driving theory class today when the question came up, about driving in high gear when driving on ice. The teacher did not know why, even though she asked around, and none of her friends knew the answer, or were able to give her a satisfactory answer.
In plain English, why do you have to drive using high gear, when driving on ice? (except when driving downhill, when LOW gear is needed.)
If your teacher did not know then get another teacher.
Driving in a higher gear means less chance of the wheels spinning when putting the power down.
Try it yourself on a wet road. Start of in 1st and it is very easy to spin the wheels. Try starting in 3rd and it is harder.
