In a direct injection engine, fuel is dumped directly into the cylinder as a fine mist. Air enters the engine through the intake manifold and valve like a carburetor engine, the only difference is that the flow of air into an engine; carburetor, is governed by the throttle on the carburetor, air injection engine is regulated by a regulatory body, which is essentially a tube of air flow through regulated by a butterfly valve.
